netgear default password

Posted by: who last updated this on October 15, 2011

Unless you have changed the default netgear password previously you can login using these details:

Username: admin

Password: password  (note that a few older routers had a password of 1234)

An example of netgear routers this will work on are: DG834G, DG834N. Please note that Sky and AOL use rebranded Netgear DG834G wireless routers and can have different default username/passwords. These are covered in a separate article on our website.

If you have never logged into a router before and are new to this then these step should get you into the control panel:

  1. 1. Connect router to the computer/laptop via a network patch cable.
  2. Connect the router to the microfilter which is plugged into the telephone master socket. If you are a cable customer then connect the router to the cable modem.
  3. Connect the router to the power adapter and plug in and switch on the power adapter.
  4. Wait a couple of minutes for the router to load up.
  5. Power on the computer/laptop and wait for it to boot into the operating system.
  6. Load up your favourite web browser.
  7. In the address bar type: http://192.168.0.1/     and press enter
  8. You should now be asked for the username and password.
  9. For the username type: admin
  10. For the password type: password
  11. Press enter or click ok.
  12. You should now be logged into the control panel.

What now?

If your router is ADSL you want to setup your adsl username and password if this is a new installation. After that you should setup wireless security as by default the routers are in an unsecured state.
