Netgear Security Key

Posted by: who last updated this on November 2, 2011

The Netgear security key will be needed if you wish to use a new laptop or desktop wirelessly to access the internet or your network resources.

You will need to access the netgear control panel. Inside the control panel the wireless settings can be found which will identify what the security key is.

If you have tried to connect wirelessly and you do not have the netgear security key then a wireless connection will not be possible.

Connect your laptop to the netgear router and in a web browser type http://192.168.0.1/ then press enter and you will be asked for a username and password. The username is admin and the password is password.

Once in the netgear control panel select wireless settings on the left hand menu and then choose wireless security. The netgear security key is sometimes listed as wpa key.

Make a note of the security key and then attempt to make a wireless connection with your new laptop or desktop and when you are asked for the security key then type it in and click connect.

You will now be connected.

Top Tip: write the security key on the underside of the netgear router for future reference.
