If you have a computer running Microsoft Windows XP Home or Microsoft Windows XP Professional you can easily check to see what type of Processor and the amount or RAM you have in your computer.
All you need to do is to ensure your computer is running and that you are logged in to windows so that you can see your desktop. On a blank area of the windows desktop Press and hold the windows key and tap the pause key then release the windows key. This will open the system properties dialog. The first tab is called general and at the bottom it will show you the processor and ram that is fitted to the computer.
Note that processor is also commonly referred to as CPU.
When you have finished looking at the information in the system properties dialog you just need to click on the OK button to close the system properties dialog.
Typical processors fitted to current computers are Intel ( celeron, pentium m, centrino, core duo, core2 duo ) and AMD ( Sempron, Athlon, Athlon64 and Phenom ).
Finding out what processor and ram is fitted to your computer in Windows Vista You can also use the same process in Windows Vista to discover what processor and how much ram you have fitted in your computer.
Power on your computer and login so that you are as your windows desktop. Press and hold the windows hey and then press and release the pause key then release the windows key. The System Properties dialog will then open. Again in this dialog here you will see the processor and ram information.
An alternative method of showing the System Properties dialog which tells you what processor and how much memory you have is to go Start -> Control Panel -> System. text.
How to check processor and memory capacity using the Direct X Diagnostic Tool
In Windows XP Home or Professional click Start->Run…-> type in the box dxdiag and then press return.
In Windows Vista click Start-> where it says start search type dxdiag and then press return.
You will then be shown the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. On the first tab you can see what type of processor as well as the processor speed and how much memory is fitted.
