speedtouch 330 vista driver
In this article we expose the Thomson Speedtouch 330 adsl usb modem. Being one of the most popular modems given out by ADSL providers have you ever wondered whats inside the plastic casing? Our exhibit for the article is the slimline model of the SpeedTouch 330. We take off the case and delve into whats under the hood. Its quite surprising what can be packed into such a small plastic case.

The Thomson Speedtouch 330 is one of the most popular ADSL USB modems supplied by ISP's. When you sign up this is what you are likely to receive if you are not sent a wireless router. The slimline model of the Speedtouch 330 ( the model featured in this article ) was designed such that when packaged in its shipping box it could fit through a letterbox.

This picture shows what comes inside the box when you receive your Speedtouch 330 ADSL USB modem from your ISP.

In the box that will be posted through your letterbox will be;

  • Thomson Speedtouch 330 ADSL USB Modem
  • 1.8m RJ11 ADSL lead
  • Microfilter
  • Driver and Application Setup CD/DVD
  • Possibly a welcome letter or quick start guide

The unit itself has two status led's on the topside marked USB and ADSL. The modem driver is installed as a dial up device rather than a networking device.

To open the casing first the torx screw needs to be removed. This is hidden under the rubber pad on the rear underside of the modem. Turn the modem upside down and near the MAC address sticker gently peel away the rubber pad. The torx screw is located centrally underneath that pad.

This picture shows the torx screw on the underside of the Speedtouch 330 casing hidden under the rubber pad.

Once the torx screw is removed from the Speedtouch 330 the casing can be separated with the help of a small flat blade screw driver or letter opener or similar. There are 4 plastic clips holding the top of the casing to the bottom of the casing, 2 on each side near the corners. Hold the Speedtouch modem on its side and carefully prise apart the clips. When you have done one side then flip the modem over and release the 2 clips on the other side.

This picture shows how to release the plastic clips holding the top part of the casing to the bottom part of the casing of the speedtouch 330.

This shot is taken with the plastic clips released and the top and bottom parts of the casing separated.

Stamped on the inside of the top part of the Speedtouch 330 casing is a manufacturing date code.

The Speedtouch 330 contains few components on the printed circuit board. This picture shows the topside with the USB connector and ADSL RJ11 connector on the right hand side.
