This fault normally just appears one day when you try to use your printer. You power on the printer but it will not power on and you will not be able to print. The power light and the exclamation light are illuminated and the display will not show that the printer is ready to print.
The display can show one of the following:
Random Characrers.
The initialising progress scroll bar freezes.
The display shows hw_interrupt_hwv2.c and may include some other characters which may be different if you power off and power on again.
The power supply for this printer is external ( it looks like a large laptop power supply ). Your first attempt should be to reset the power supply as outlined on the HP website. The procedure is as follows, unplug the power supply from the mains supply and wait 5 minutes for the power to discharge. Unplug the power supply from the printer. Unplug the USB lead from the printer ( this also takes care of the possibility of a ground loop through the computer ). Plug the power supply into the main and switch on the main supply if your mains socket has a switch. Observe if the led power on indicator on the power supply is illuminated. If it is not then you need to replace the power supply. If it is illuminated then plug the power supply into the HP PSC2355 all in one printer copier scanner. Press the power button on the printer control panel.
If your printer still does not power on correctly then some reports suggest performing a full reset or a part reset. However the information we found suggested the the hash key and the 6 key should be pressed together when powering on the printer. The problem we found with this was that our PSC 2355 did not have a hash key # on the control panel but there was a 6 key. It would seem that these instructions could have possibly been for a model equipped with fax functionality.
If your printer exhibits the differing error messages then this would point to the fact that the printer logic board or main control board is faulty. In this case the printer will need to be returned to a service centre.
We found that cleaning the head location strip in some cases allowed the printer to power on in the case of a frozen progress bar. Open the printer cover and located at the top of the full width of the print head carriage you will find a thin clear plastic suspended and running though the print head. If you look carefully you will see lines marked on this strip. These are index lines which provide feed back of the position of the printhead. Clean the strip in situ carefully with a lint free cloth while the printer is powered off. Power on the printer and check operation.
