Facebook Status Update New Login System Account Update Tool phishing
![]() Author: James. |
On checking the junk folder this morning we had several emails reporting to be from Facebook.
Yet again apparently there was an update that needed our immediate attention. We've had three emails all with the same information but slightly different subject lines:
New Login System
Facebook Account Update
Facebook Update Tool
It is obvious that these are all phishing attempts. Be on your guard. The body of the email could appear quite authentic to the casual user. The body of the email is as follows:
Dear Facebook user,
In an effort to make your online experience safer and more enjoyable, Facebook will be implementing a new login system that will affect all Facebook users. These changes will offer new features and increased account security.
Before you are able to use the new login system, you will be required to update your account.

The email from is: update+ruxywodwngkc@facebookmail.com although if the headers are examined surprisingly they dont match the sender.
Helpfully the sender has provided a link for us to click on so that we may update our facebook user account. Excellent. Looking at the actual URL to which this link would send us is NOT facebook.
So, be on your guard against phishing attacks on your facebook account. If you receive any emails dont be tempted to just follow the links and enter your personal details into the form that the link displays.
