A PS2 to USB Adapter enables a PS2 keyboard or mouse with a 6-pin mini DIN connector to be connect to a computer or laptop via a USB port.

Q. Why would I need one of these?
A. Lets say that you've purchased a new computer but would like to use your favourite keyboard or mouse from your old computer which had PS2 connections but the new computer does not have PS2 connectors available on the back. You could use a PS2 to USB adapter to convert the PS2 connector on the keyboard or mouse to a USB connector suitable for the USB ports on the back of your new comptuer. Modern computers and laptop are starting to ship without any PS2 connectors as most peripherals available today come with a USB connector.

This picture shows the connectors on a typical motherboard. The 6 pin PS2 connectors, green is for a PS2 mouse and purple is for a PS2 keyboard, are located on the left of the picture with the PS2 6 pin mouse socket above the PS2 6 pin keyboard socket. The connectors on the keyboard and mouse are normally colour coded the same colour as the PS2 sockets on the motherboard to assist in correct connection of all the connectors when setting up a new computer.
The picture below show a PS2 connector on a keyboard. The connector is colour coded purple which should match the socket on the back of your computer.
