The actual details of the Belkin card were: F5D7001 B 2001 UK which is a G+ PCI WiFi adapter. The following steps did work on a Vista PC in our workshop, however, your configuration may be different and therefore may not work on your system.

The Belkin F5D7001 125MBPs PCI Wireless adapter with the correct drivers will work on Microsoft Windows Vista

It may be a good idea to backup any data prior just in case...

  1. Install the PCI card
  2. Download the driver from here: Belkin's Website  and get it onto the Vista PC
  3. Run the downloaded driver. Its the driver only, you use the standard Vista connection client
  4. Attempt to connect to your router ensuring the SSID and key are correct. Note that some routers require you to press the bonding/pairing button on the router
  5. We found it necessary to reboot as the wireless connection only established local connectivity after the driver was installed

The installation of Vista was 32 bit and we doubt that these steps would work on a 64 bit installation. Some suggestions we've found elsewhere to get belkin kit working on Vista x64 are to use the RaLink drivers if the Belkin product uses their chipset (the chip on the card should be identified RTxxxx) although we also believe some Belkin kit to use Broadcom chipsets (the chip on the card should be identified BCMxxx). Other resources suggest on Vista 32 bit version using the Windows XP drivers on the installation CD bundled with the product.

We have also made available this article as a printable PDF version How to Install the Belkin F5D7001 on Vista.

Rabby thanks. followed your instructions and got the belkin card working on windows vista home premium. however the signal strength seems low.
Cameron Your suggestions are good, however without the correct drivers on Vista64 the F5D7001 does not have the function of operating in 'High Speed' mode (125Mb/s).
